David R. Conley remained at the Aroostook County Jail Monday, June 27, after he was unable to post bail, which was initially set at $100,000 surety or $40,000 cash.

Police arrested Conley, who has no prior arrests or convictions on similar charges, without incident, according to Theriault.

Chief Theriault said the investigation is still ongoing, calling the case “complicated.”

Without identifying the other person involved or further details, Theriault said Conley is accused of assaulting a female friend on June 22, by means of impairing her abilities with an intoxicant prior to engaging in a sexual act.

Conley, who has been living in the Madawaska area for approximately 20 or 30 years, faces up to 10 years incarceration and a $20,000 fine for the Class B felony.

Conley has an initial court appearance on Aug. 3 at Maine District Court in Madawaska.
